Michael RIP

I am truly at a loss as to what to write, so I will let his music speak.

Let's all remember the man through his music....

Becoming Faceless on Facebook!

Just what can you do if your Facebook account gets disabled?

Recently I was trying to solve this very problem as that's what happened to my husband's account, and right in the middle of chatting, with no warning!

The thing is, I've never been a big Facebook user myself, so I haven't really understood the phenomenon. Maybe it's the fact that I can't be bothered with the childish pokes, tickles, pillow fights, polls etc, but I'm suspecting it's more likely due to Twitter, as I discovered them both around the same time! he he Anyway, it was only when I created an account for my husband a few months ago, I actually started to take Facebook, and it's importance, very seriously.

To give you a bit of background, my husband comes from a pre-war small town called Knin in Croatia, which is also where my parents are from, and where we lived for 2.5 years until recently. Since the war ended there in '95, the majority of the 30,000 population resettled around the globe, and most relied on word of mouth to find out what actually happened to family and long lost friends. I set up my husband on Facebook
to try and find his lost community, and so he started asking around, and eventually reconnecting with his history. Rather quickly word got out he was on there, and within weeks he had over 500+ new "old“ friends, many he hadn't heard a word about or from since that fateful day when they all forcibly fled their hometown en masse. (For those interested, you can watch a report showing the town and village my husband is from here)

Anyhow, once again he could interact with the "locals", sharing memories and updating eachother on what everyone had gotten up to in the past 14 years or more. It was quite heartwarming to see the many friendship requests popping up on a daily basis.

So you can imagine how distraught he was
when his account was disabled, as he hadn't even thought to grab emails from these friends as a precaution. I emailed Facebook a few times pleading our case, even tweeting the always helpful Facebook Queen @MariSmith for advice, and she advised it can take up to 7-10 days for it to be enabled. So we waited and sweated it out........and FINALLY, THANKFULLY, one month later it was back!!

This is why I'm urging you all now to get familiar with the reasons why your account could get disabled, and if this happens, what you can do about it. For this information, and also to subscribe to Mari's informative blog which offers tips for using Facebook, including for business, click here.
And please make sure all your great Facebook contacts are stored for safekeeping in all your social media platforms, in your email contacts and even on a simple spreadsheet.

Don't get caught out!
